Aptitude & Logical Reasoning Quiz -29

David gets on the elevator at the 11th floor of a building and rides up at the rate of 57 floors per minute. At the same time, Albert gets on an elevator at the 51st floor of the same building and rides down at the rate of 63 floors per minute. If they continue travelling at these rates, then at which floor will their paths cross?

Suppose their paths cross after x minutes.
Then, 11 + 57x = 51 - 63x = 120x = 40
x = 1/3
Number of floors covered by David in (1/3) min. = (1/3 x 57) = 19.
So, their paths cross at (11 +19) i.e., 30th floor.

A 300 metre long train crosses a platform in 39 seconds while it crosses a signal pole in 18 seconds. What is the length of the platform?

Speed = (300/18) m/sec = 50/3 m/sec.
Let the length of the platform be x metres.
Then, (x + 300/39) = 50/3
3(x + 300) = 1950
x = 350 m.

Statements: Company X has a record of manufacturing cameras of quality and the latest design so that you do not spoil even a single shot irrespective of the weather conditions.
I. No other company except X is reputed in the camera industry.
II. Anyone can take an acceptable shot with camera X.

Clearly, the statement talks of Company X only and no other company. So, I does not follow. Also, it is mentioned that one can take a good shot even in bad weather conditions with a camera of Company X. So, II follows.

4. If the letters of the word 'PROTECTION' which are at odd numbered position in the English alphabet are picked up and are arranged in alphabetical order from left and if they are now substituted by Z, Y, X and so on, beginning from left which letter will get substituted by X?

Given word: P R O T E C T I O N
Position of these letters in the English alphabet : P -- 16, R -- 18, O -- 15, T -- 20, E -- 5, C -- 3, T -- 20, I -- 9, O -- 15, N -- 14
Letters at odd numbered position = O, E, C, I, O
Letters at odd numbered position in alphabetical order = C E I O O
if they are now substituted by Z, Y, X, W, V, the letter "I" will get substituted by X.

Find the missing Number -> 42 : 85 :: 41: ?

By analysing the numbers we can find that in the first part, first number is doubled and added with 1 to get the second number i.e. 42 * 2 + 1 = 85
By following the same approach for the next number we get 41 * 2 + 1 = 82 + 1 = 83
