In addition, a good  number  of University  departments are  also receiving   grants under   the  Special   Assistance Programme of the UGC in recognition of their outstanding academic work. 10 Departments (Germanic & Romance Studies, Hindi, Persian, Geography, Music, East Asian Studies, Anthropology, Mathematics, B.R.Ambedkar, M. I.L.) are getting grants under DRS, 2 Departments (Buddhist Studies, English) are getting grants under DSA, 3 Departments (English, Buddhist Studies, Social Work) are getting grants under AISHSS and 3 Departments (African Studies, East Asian Studies, Developing Countries Research Centre) are getting grants under Area Studies Programmes. Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension and Women’s Studies & Development Centre of the University are also getting special funding from UGC. The University today boasts of as many as 15 big libraries apart from libraries in colleges.

2. Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia has become an ensemble of a multilayered educational system which covers all aspects of schooling, under-graduate, post-graduate, M.Phil/ Ph.D and post-doctoral education. With 9 faculties of learning, 38 teaching and research departments and over 27 centres of learning and research, we attract brightest young minds from all over the country. They use creative space of Jamia to actualize their potential.On 1 March 1935, the foundation stone for a school building was laid at Okhla, then a non-descript village in the southern outskirts of Delhi. In 1936, all institutions of Jamia, except Jamia Press, the Maktaba and the library, were shifted to the new campus. The basic emphasis of Jamia was on evolving innovative education methods. This led to the establishment of a teacher’s college (Ustadon ka Madrasa) in 1938. In 1936, Dr. M.A. Ansari passed away. On 4 June 1939, Jamia Millia Islamia was registered as a society.

3. Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) occupies a unique position amongst universities and institutions of higher learning in the country. It was established in 1920, and evolved out of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College (MAO College) which was set up in 1877 by the great visionary and social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad khan. The university now has 12 faculties comprising 98 teaching departments, 3 academies and 15 centres and institution. It has the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Dr. Ziauddin Dental College, Institute of Ophthalmology, Food Craft Institute, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Centre of Advance Study in History, Department of West Asian Studies, Centre of Wildlife, Centre for South African & Brazilian Studies, Department of Islamic Studies, Academic Staff College, Women’s College, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, University Polytechnic –separately for boys and girls and Computer Centre etc. The university has opened two new centres of study outside Aligarh w.e.f. 2011 at Murshidabad, West Bengal and Mallapurum at Kerala state.

4. Barkatullah University

The University formerly known as Bhopal University was established in 1970 in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. In 1988, it was rechristened as the Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, in the living memory of the great freedom fighter,  Prof. Barkatullah belonged to Bhopal. The University complex includes Administrative Block, Library Block, Life sciences Block, Law Block, Humanities Block, social science Block, Physics Block, Applied Geology Block, Hostel Building, Guest House, Institute of Open and Distance Education, Post office, a branch of the State Bank of India, Printing press, faculty club, Institute of Management Building, Department of Pharmacy and University Institute of Technology. 5. Osmania University

Osmania University is named after its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad who rather through a farm or Royal Charter, brought the University into existence in 1918. Throughout its existence of over eight decades, it has shown remarkable progress and sustained an integrated development of all faculties.
