Footwear Design & Development Institute
Footwear Design & Development Institute was established in 1986, under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India. FDDI is playing a key role in imparting education, facilitating the Indian industry by bridging the skill gap in the areas of Footwear, Leather Accessory & life style product, and because of its continuous contribution towards nation building, FDDI has been granted the status of“An Institution of National Importance” under the FDDI Act 2017. FDDI is a premier academic and training institution dedicated to the development and growth of the Footwear & Product, Leather Products, Retail and Fashion Merchandise and Fashion Design sectors. FDDI has Pan India Presence with 12 state-of art campuses spread across the country.
FDDI offers Bachelor and Master degree programmes in the areas of Footwear Design & Production, Production and Management and Retail & Fashion Merchandise, Leather Goods and Accessories Design and Fashion Design, besides offering short-term Industry-specific programmes. Central Footwear Training Institute, Agra
Agra has been renowned at the national and international levels as a centre for educational excellence, and industrial developments apart from tourist attraction. The city not only attracts foreign visitors for site-seeing but the industries like Leather, Foundry and Handicrafts also made it very popular across the globe. Although the Footwear manufacturing in this area had started centuries before Indian independence, but the sector was not fully developed, as the basic infrastructure was not available at that time.
Government of India established “Central Footwear Training Centre. Agra” in July 1963, under Small Industries Development Organization, Ministry of Industry with financial assistance from Ford Foundation. The erstwhile Centre was well equipped with latest imported machines. The prime objective of the Centre was to provide young and technically sound personnel to the footwear industry and to upgrade the knowledge and skill of the existing staff. It was the 1st January, 1996, when the Central Footwear Training Centre, Agra was converted into an autonomous body and was renamed as Central Footwear Training Institute, a Govt. of India Society under the Chairmanship of Additional Secretary / Development Commissioner (Small Scale Industries), Small Industries Development Organisation, Ministry of Industry, Government of India (Presently Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India) with an objective of smooth functioning and quicker implementation of managerial decisions.

Institute of Government Leather Working School Mumbai
Establishment of Polytechnic at Elphinston Technical School, Dhobi Talav, Mumbai with 60 intake in Civil Engineering on 15th June, 1960.
The Polytechnic acquired existing campus in May, 1985.
Introduction of new diploma courses under State Government plan schemes viz. Electronics engineering and Instrumentation in 1988, Mechanical in 1989.
Implementation of World Bank assisted projects in 1990-98. Major components were capacity expansion, quality and efficiency improvement. Under this started a new course, Computer Engineering in 1992, which was awarded academic autonomy in 1990 to design, develop, implement own curriculum and issue own diploma.
Implementation of Canada India Industry Polytechnic Linkage Project (CIILP-2002 to 2005). The project focus was a training of faculty and staff.
The Polytechnic has been awarded Narsee Monjee Award for best performance in the year 1999 by ISTE.
