What is FOSS?
A non-profit, open source initiative, FOSS stands for Free and Open Source Software. It is an alternative model of software development, one the nonprofit sector is beginning to embrace. The advantage of the open source model over the proprietary model is that everyone has access to the source code of an application. In practice, that allows hundreds of technical people, many working as volunteers with no commercial incentive, to collaborate on continual enhancements to the software.
