About University :

Historically a small class of 4-5 mentally retarded children was started in 1964 in the Government College of Education, Chandigarh by Sh. J. S. Gandhi, Lecturer in Psychology in the college. Within a short period, the number of students increased & a separate building was hired for these children. It was established with the aim of providing educational and vocational training to mentally retarded children with the recognition of the fact that with the proper training and facilities to such children, they can be rehabilitated and made to adjust themselves to the demands of society. The mission is to Rehabilitate the maximum number of intellectually challenged persons in and around Chandigarh and integrate them into the mainstream society.

Course

Diploma (D.Ed) in Special Education-Mental Retardation

Every year a fresh batch of 30 students is enrolled in the Academic Session through online Aptitude Test conducted by RCI. Eligibility to seek admission is intermediate from any board.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Candidates who have passed 10+2 with 50% in an aggregate or equivalent examination recognized by Central/State Board of Education can apply for the course and those who have appeared in 10+2 or equivalent examination may also apply.
  • The weightage on account of higher qualification i.e. graduation shall be given while calculating merit as per criteria of the department.
