About Institute

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research originated as École de Médicine de Pondichérry established by the French Government in the year 1823. This medical school was converted into Dhanvantari Medical College at the time of de facto transfer of Pondicherry to Government of India. This Medical College was later upgraded into Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER). JIPMER which includes a tertiary care referral hospital is an Institution of National Importance (an autonomous body) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. JIPMER aims to provide high quality learning environment for those undertaking taught and research degrees awarded by JIPMER in the Faculty of Medicine. JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super speciality Medical Training through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with a bed strength of 1500 and a Nursing College. M.B.B.S., B.Sc. M.Sc., M.D., M.S., Degree Courses are offered in 32 various disciplines. Super speciality departments of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology& Neonatology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Haematology and Surgical Gastroenterology also offer D.M./M.Ch. Courses. Fellowship courses are available in four disciplines. Full-time Ph.D. Programmes are available in six disciplines.

JIPMER PG [Master of Surgery (MS), Doctor of Medicine (MD)]

JIPMER, Puducherry is an Institue of National Importance which offers specialisation in twenty four different fields under Master of Surgery (MS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) programmes. JIPMER PG 2019 is a national-level entrance exam which is conducted twice in December and May for the respective sessions. Candidates will be provided with a window of one month to apply for JIPMER PG 2019 entrance exam. The result of the entrance exam will be declared in the form of merit list on or before December 12, 2018.

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry will conduct the JIPMER PG 2019 entrance exam on December 2, 2018, for January Session. JIPMER PG application form 2019 has been released on September 24, 2018, along with the information brochure. The last date for JIPMER PG online registration is October 26, 2018. The entrance exam of JIPMER PG is conducted biannually for admission to 200 MD/MS seats (100 in January session and 100 in July session) available in JIPMER, Puducherry. Out of the 100 seats available in each session, 90 seats are available for all Indian Nationals candidates including OCI while, 5 seats are reserved for Indian candidates sponsored by the government and 5 seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals candidates. Candidates who possess an MBBS degree or an equivalent degree are eligible to appear for the JIPMER PG 2019 entrance exam. Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who are Indian nationals, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Foreign National are eligible to take JIPMER PG entrance exam.
  • An MBBS degree or an equivalent degree recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) should be possessed by the candidate at the time of filling the JIPMER PG application form 2019 for January session.
  • Candidate must also complete the one year compulsory rotating internship which should complete by December 31, 2018.
  • A candidate must secure a minimum score of 55% in aggregate in MBBS course if belonging to Unreserved or OBC category. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum qualifying marks are 50%. PwD candidates should have the minimum qualifying marks of their respective category.
