The World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed every year on September 10 to raise awareness about suicide prevention. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) survey, across the world nearly 800,000 commit suicide each year which is one person every 40 seconds. Thus, the day aims to open up the conversations and help those in the darkness. The 2017 theme “Take a minute, change a life” highlights the importance of speaking up, taking the time, and listening.

R M Hidayathulla, who is from Androth in Lakshadweep, in his research work stated that biodiversity-rich uninhabited ‘Parali I island’ of Lakshadweep has been eroded to an extent of 100% due to coastal erosion. The study stated that the complete erosion and inundation of Parali I was pointing to the gravity of issues associated with coastal erosion within the atoll. Apart from Parali I, net erosion was higher in Parali II (80%), followed by Thinnakara (14.38%), Parali III (11.42%) and Bangaram (9.968%). Hidayathulla was awarded a doctoral degree in July 2017 by Calicut University in Kerala for his work entitled “Studies on coastal erosion in selected uninhabited islands of Lakshadweep archipelago Archipelago with Special Reference to Biodiversity Conservation.” He conducted studies on the biodiversity of five uninhabited islands — Bangaram, Thinnakara, Parali I, II and III, of which Parali I has been inundated.

A Moon landing is the arrival of a spacecraft on the surface of the Moon. This includes both manned and unmanned (robotic) missions. The first human-made object to reach the surface of the Moon was the Soviet Union's Luna 2 mission, on 13 September 1959.

Purab Aur Paschim (English: East and West) is a 1970 Indian patriotic film. The movie was produced and directed by Manoj Kumar, and it stars Manoj Kumar, Saira Banu, Ashok Kumar, Pran and Prem Chopra in the lead roles. The music is by Kalyanji Anandji. This was the second film by Manoj Kumar where he stars as Bharat (first being Upkar) and his fourth film on patriotism (Shaheed was his first, to be followed by Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and Kranti.)

Google Duo is a video chat mobile app developed by Google, available on the Android and iOS operating systems. It was announced at Google's developer conference on May 18, 2016, and began its worldwide release on August 16, 2016.

Bulundi is a 1981 Hindi crime, thriller and drama film starring Raaj Kumar, Danny Denzongpa, Kim Yashpal, Asha Parekh and Jeevan. It was directed by Esmayeel Shroff and its music was composed by RD Burman. The film was remade in Tamil as Nermai. Wealthy Bombay-based Ranjit Singh Lobo (Danny Denzongpa) recruits Professor Satish Khurana (Raaj Kumar) to tutor his collegian/truant son, Manjit (also Danny Denzongpa). Satish reluctantly accepts this assignment, and brings about a positive change in the former so much so Ranjit's friends, Madan Teja (Kader Khan) and Babulal Bhakhri (Jeevan), also recruit him to tutor their respective sons, Vikram (Raj Kiran) and Pawan (Rakesh Bedi). Satish does not know that soon he will be forced to resign from his college after the Principal (Brahm Bhardwaj) accuses him of leaking examination questions for his new-found pupils; and the deadly plan that Ranjit and his associates have for him.

Hindi Divas is celebrated on 14 September because on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India. But this didn't come as easily as it sounds. To this end, several stalwarts rallied and lobbied pan-India in favor of Hindi, most notably Beohar Rajendra Simha along with Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupt and Seth Govind Das who even debated in Parliament on this issue.
